Company & Staff
Founded by John Long in 1992 as a family business, Advanced Print & Finishing (then Colorwise Printing) evolved from a stationary printer into a full service commercial printing company.
In 2008 we recognized that a core part of our business was underserved in the industry. We strived to connect directly with self publishing authors in hopes of taking some of the mystery out of book printing.
BestBookPrinting.com was launched in 2009, and as much as we knew about book printing, our new customers were teaching us about the challenges that face self publishing authors. We continued to expand our operation and our expertise as we learned more and more from our customers.
Simply put, to continue to be the best book printing company in America, we need to serve YOU, the nation’s best book printing customers. So from all of us at Advanced Print & Finishing and from our families, thank you!
John Long
DEPARTMENT: ALL
STARTED TEAM: 1992
Having worked in printing his entire life, John became interested in starting his own company in the early 90’s. Still working his full time job, John carved out enough time each week to get the company off the ground.
As with many entrepreneurs, John took a leap of faith, quite his job and gambled his life savings and his family’s future on building the business. Thirty years later and he’s still at it each and every day and remains the driving force behind Advanced Print & Finishing’s success.
Valerie Williams
DEPARTMENT: Customer Service / Administration
JOINED TEAM: 1998
Starting as a part time intern while still in High School, Valerie continued working through college and started working with us full time after graduation. She has proven that she can do just about anything and does it all with great skill.
Over the years she has been involved in production, shipping, marketing, sales and administration. Valerie currently leads our Customer Service team as well as heading up accounting and human resources. And yes, she’s amazing in those roles too.
Chris Jamieson
DEPARTMENT: Prepress
JOINED TEAM: 2004
Chris joined us as a junior level prepress operator quickly becoming a team leader. She has proven over and over that she is willing and able to help in any capacity and consequently has become an indispensable part of our team. Among her many responsibilities Chris coordinates all of our Prepress and Digital Production and helps our customers through the book printing process.
Unlike many in the prepress world, Chris works directly with customers providing an unparalleled level of service. Chris really is one of the keys to our unmatched customer experience.
Mark Haynes
DEPARTMENT: Print Finishing
JOINED TEAM: 2016
In 2016 we joined forces with our primary print finishing vendor to bring those services in house. Saying Mark joined the team in 2016 is a bit misleading because we had already been working together for years.
Mark brings to the table an amazing depth of experience in all facets of finishing work. Having run all of the equipment, Mark knows finishing inside and out. That’s what makes him great at his role of Production Coordinator and along with his personable nature makes him even better at his role in Customer Service.
Terry Moran
DEPARTMENT: Sales & Marketing
JOINED TEAM: 2021
Terry is our newest yet most experienced team member with an incredible 48 years in the print industry. His career has featured a sales manager roll at Hawaii’s largest bindery and mailhouse, two decades of success with ownership and management of a service bureau offering graphic design, desktop publishing and prepress services, and 14 years overseeing major accounts for Konica Minolta’s Production Printing team in NorCal.
Aside from loads of experience, Terry is as warm and genuine as they come. We can only imagine how Terry will shape our sales efforts in the future and help enhance relationships with our existing customers. Welcome aboard Terry, we’re glad you are with us.
Bryan Gillman
DEPARTMENT: Prepress
JOINED TEAM: 2010
What seems to be a running theme at APF, Bryan came to us with loads of experience from a larger commercial printing operation. Originally a senior prepress operator, Bryan has taken on a much bigger role and now leads our design team, supports our sales and marketing efforts and manages digital production in the print shop.
Bryan is a wizard on the computer yet affably helps our customers directly with file preparation and print advice. It’s just one of the many incredible talents that Bryan brings to our team.
Shane Stedron
DEPARTMENT: Information Technology
JOINED TEAM: 1997
Like many of the APF family, Shane came to us from a larger commercial printing operation. He welcomed the opportunity to help build something from humble beginnings.
Twenty five years later he has become an integral part of the company having helped at all levels and in all departments. He’s still the “IT guy” but wears many different hats, working behind the scenes supporting his fellow team mates to keep everything running efficiently.
Lynn Rader
DEPARTMENT: Bindery / Shipping
JOINED TEAM: 2015
Lynn is a superstar! Hired as a bindery operator she soon took over the department. Once our bindery was running like clockwork she set her focus on streamlining our shipping operations. Guess what, she now runs that too.
Printing is a fast paced, production focused world yet we never see Lynn stressing about a deadline. Her secret is that she runs three steps ahead of everyone else. How she does it we have no idea.
Patrick Southern
DEPARTMENT: Offset Printing
JOINED TEAM: 2012
Patrick is a journeyman pressman having worked his entire career in print shops throughout the Atlanta area. Patrick has proven that there is no press problem for which he doesn’t have an answer. We consider ourselves fortunate that we have a lead pressman with as much knowledge and experience as he offers.
What makes Patrick great at his job is his obsession with quality. He holds himself and everyone else here to a very high standard. Our customers love him for it, and so do we.
Dennis Knowles
DEPARTMENT: Finishing
JOINED TEAM: 2016
Before coming on board at Advanced, Dennis was our go-to outside expert on lamination and tabbing. Now we are very happy to say he is our in-house go-to guy. Adept at every single finishing process that we offer, Dennis has shown incredible versatility throughout the shop. If he keeps on adding new skills at this rate we predict that he will be running the entire operation in about a month.
In addition to his skills, Dennis shows up every day with a great attitude and hits everyone with a fresh dad joke. And if he senses that you’re having a rough day he’ll do his level best to bring a smile to your face.
Jeff Yarborough
DEPARTMENT: Finishing
JOINED TEAM: 2017
Jeff joined our ranks just after we expanded our finishing department in 2016. He brought with him an expert level knowledge and experience in all facets of print finishing. More to the point Jeff is easily the most talented letterpress operator with which we’ve had the pleasure to work. He is the Neil Peart of Print Finishing.
Every week it seems we learn something new from Jeff about foil stamping, die cutting or embossing. And here we thought we already knew everything there was to know on the subject.
Lupe, Esther & Isa Ramirez
DEPARTMENT: Bindery
JOINED TEAM: 2016
Lupe and her sisters Esther and Isa work as an incredible team in our Bindery. Aside from their unbelievably fast and efficient production we are always amazed at their attention to detail. We have a rock solid shop-wide quality control system in place but our secret QC weapon is always Las Hermanas.
As much as we value their abilities and undeniable work ethic, it is Lupe, Isa and Esther’s kindness, spirit and good hearted nature that we adore.
